Announcing NKP 2.12
Announcing NKP 2.12
We are delighted to announce the launch of Nutanix Kubernetes Platform offering with NKP 2.12 release! This update brings integration between the NKP platform and Nutanix Infrastructure (NCI) platform, providing our customers with a robust, unified platform to manage both virtualized and containerized workloads seamlessly.
The Nutanix AHV hypervisor, a modern and secure virtualization platform, empowers organizations to run VMs for applications both on-premises and in public clouds. NKP, on the other hand, is the premier platform designed to simplify Kubernetes® management through automation, leveraging declarative APIs for both cluster and application lifecycle management. With NKP 2.12, these two powerful platforms come together, enabling customers to effortlessly manage traditional VM-based applications alongside containerized workloads in cloud-native environments. This integration ensures the flexibility and agility needed to move applications and data across hybrid multi-cloud environments, all while maintaining top-tier performance.
Integrating virtualization and containerization is no small feat. Which is why this new capability is so powerful—delivering a centralized, automated, and secure operating model for modern applications, no matter where they run—be it public cloud, private cloud, or hybrid multi-cloud environments. As businesses increasingly deal with a mix of containerized and virtualized workloads, having a single integrated platform to support both ensures that customers do not end up with a silo just for containers.
NKP builds on years of maturity of the D2iQ Kubernetes platform, and one of the goals of the platform has been to abstract away the complexity of infrastructure management. This allows teams to concentrate on developing applications that drive business value, rather than getting bogged down in the intricacies of Kubernetes management. In line with this goal, we’ve made it even easier to provision the management cluster with the introduction of a terminal-based UI in NKP 2.12. This user-friendly interface simplifies the setup process, enabling faster deployment.
To further enhance the user experience, NKP 2.12 now comes with a built-in image of Rocky Linux OS out-of-the-box, allowing teams to hit the ground running with minimal setup time. Getting started with that first Kubernetes deployment has never been easier!!!
Additional Features:
- Cilium Support: NKP 2.12 now ships with Cilium support for Nutanix Infrastructure. Natively based on eBPF, Cilium is a CNCF project that provides advanced networking capabilities for cloud-native applications. Its use of security identities and eBPF map sizes makes it particularly effective in environments with stringent network security and performance requirements.
- NKP support in Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) on Nutanix: VPCs and overlay subnets provide network level segmentation between tenants, making it a common use case for Service Providers. Additionally, overlay subnets are crucial for providing failure-domain-aware Kubernetes deployments. With NKP 2.12, you can now deploy on overlay subnets within VPCs, enhancing network segmentation and reliability.
- Three New Tiers for Different Needs: Starting with NKP 2.12, NKP will be available in three distinct tiers. NKP Starter is the quickest and easiest way to get started on Nutanix solutions; NKP Pro offers a production ready platform for deploying anywhere; and NKP Ultimate provides comprehensive fleet management capabilities. Contact Us to learn more about each tier and which one would work best for you.
- Kubernetes 1.29 Support: NKP 2.12 ships with default Kubernetes version 1.29. Check out the Kubernetes release note for a full rundown of the new features and improvements.
Why NKE users should move to NKP 2.12
Why NKE users should move to NKP 2.12
If you are a user of the Nutanix Kubernetes Engine (NKE) product, there is a lot to get excited about with NKP 2.12. This isn't just an incremental update, it is a significant leap forward. Here's why you should care:
A Complete Production-Ready Platform
NKP 2.12 is more than just a Kubernetes engine; it is a full-fledged platform designed for modern apps deployment anywhere. It comes equipped with Single Sign On for NKP UI and applications, out-of-the-box load balancing and ingress capabilities. Furthermore, NKP’s declarative approach to cluster provisioning, powered by Cluster API, ensures automation and reduces the risk of errors, making your deployments more reliable.
Additional Capabilities available on upgrade to higher NKP tiers:
Fleet Management
Tired of managing clusters individually? NKP 2.12 introduces a declarative approach for cluster and application lifecycle management, reducing the risk of cluster sprawl. With centralized hybrid multi-cloud management, you can now manage all your Kubernetes, including Amazon EKS and Microsoft Azure AKS clusters from one place, making your operations more efficient and your life a lot easier.
Smart Platform
NKP 2.12 is GPU-operator enabled, making it the ideal platform for running AI workloads. On the operations side, NKP leverages AI for anomaly detection and includes an intelligent chatbot to provide best practices and ensure consistency, helping you get the most out of your Kubernetes environment.
