Nutanix Files--Try It in Your Own Environment or Try It on Ours with Test Drive

July 10, 2020 | min

Nutanix customers get faster file data access with a lower overhead with Nutanix Files. How much lower? In a recent IDC report, Nutanix customers reported a 414 percent ROI over 5 years with Nutanix Files, driven by a 66 percent reduction in file storage management and operations overhead. You can see details in the snapshot and the report.

A key element that makes Nutanix Files simple to manage also makes it simple to try. Nutanix Files has long been available to Nutanix customers to try themselves on their existing cluster with a free TB of Files storage for every cluster. But what about customers who don’t have Nutanix or don’t have the ability to deploy Nutanix Files today? The great news is that anyone can now try Nutanix Files in their own environment with Nutanix Test Drive

Nutanix Test Drive is a fully functional Nutanix AOS environment with guided tours for common administration activities. Because Nutanix is a software-defined platform, we can quickly and easily spin up environments for customers to use and test in the same way that customers can quickly spin up infrastructure platforms to support their workloads.

When you test drive Nutanix consolidated storage the guided demo covers three common administrative activities.

  1. Deploying a file server on Nutanix in just a few clicks. This includes using the sizer tool to right-size your file server, creating front-end and back-end addresses, connecting to an active directory security environment, and completing the deployment process.
  2. Creating a file share in just a few clicks. This includes sizing the share, selecting the protocol type, setting the availability domains and protection level, and completing the deployment process.
  3. Gaining greater visibility and control with the Nutanix Files analytics engine. This includes an overview of the analytics API and dashboard, the audit trail and tracking, and the anomaly detection and rule creation.

Getting access to Test Drive is easy. Simply log on to Nutanix Test Drive, fill out the registration page, and receive the Test Drive link in your email.

Once you log in to Test Drive, you’ll be presented with a guided tour with several options, including consolidated data services. Your test drive environment will be live for four hours after submitting your information; if that’s not enough time, you can extend it to 8 hours in total. You can also submit again to get a new environment as many times you'd like.

When you select the consolidated data services option, you will have the three common options mentioned above. One of the best parts of Test Drive is that the guided tour is recommended but not required. You can navigate the Test Drive environment on your own and dig into areas of particular interest.

Getting this kind of first-hand experience with other infrastructure solutions would typically require a significant proof-of-concept project and big time commitment. But with the simplicity and flexibility of Nutanix, we can give you this experience with just a few clicks at your leisure.
