Expanded Partnership with MariaDB Brings Another Leading Enterprise-Grade Open-Source Database to Nutanix
We are delighted to announce that MariaDB is now an officially supported database on the Nutanix Database Service (NDB) database management solution. The partnership between Nutanix and MariaDB plc was unveiled at our .NEXT customer conference in May 2024, and brings MariaDB's enterprise-grade database into our solutions portfolio.
For more details, you can read the initial announcement on MariaDB's blog here. Released earlier this month, NDB 2.6, adds even more enhancements, making NDB and MariaDB a powerful one-two punch. You can read about NDB 2.6 here.
Introducing MariaDB Enterprise Server on NDB
MariaDB is one of the world's most popular open-source database management systems, supported by a large and active global community. MariaDB Enterprise Server, a commercially supported version, offers advanced security, monitoring and management capabilities essential for mission-critical applications.
By integrating MariaDB Enterprise Server with NDB, customers can easily deploy and manage MariaDB databases alongside other popular database technologies – including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server – from a single, unified Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) infrastructure. This integration gives you the flexibility to choose the right database for each application, while benefiting from the simplified management, high availability and scalability of NDB.
With the latest 2.6 release, NDB now supports:
- RHEL 8.8 MariaDB 10.3 Community
- RHEL 8.10 MariaDB 10.11 Community
- RHEL 8.10 MariaDB 10.6 Enterprise
- RHEL 9.4 MariaDB 10.11 Community
- RHEL 9.4 MariaDB 10.6 Enterprise
Modernizing Applications for Scalability and Continuous Availability
In today's fast-paced digital environment, applications must scale seamlessly and ensure continuous availability. MariaDB Enterprise Server on NDB addresses this urgent requirement by providing robust tools that allow databases to scale effortlessly across hybrid multicloud landscapes.
Features like automatic failover and transaction replay ensure that applications remain operational and continuously available. This makes it easier for businesses to modernize their applications without sacrificing performance or availability.
Improved Security with Enhanced Privileges Analysis
NDB 2.6 introduces enhanced privileges analysis for MariaDB Server, which strengthens database security by providing deeper insights into user access levels and permissions.
This enables administrators to identify and address potential security vulnerabilities more effectively and ensures that access rights are aligned with organizational policies. As part of a broader suite of security enhancements in NDB 2.6, this feature enables enterprises to maintain a more secure database environment and reduce the risk of unauthorized access or data breaches.
Reducing Costs with a High-Performance, Resilient Database Solution
Maintaining proprietary legacy databases can be costly due to direct expenses and operational inefficiencies. MariaDB Enterprise Server on NDB is a cost-effective alternative that delivers the performance, resilience and security that enterprises need at a fraction of the cost of traditional databases. This allows businesses to leverage a high-performing database solution that aligns with financial objectives and frees-up resources for other strategic investments.
Simplifying Development Environments and Enhancing Flexibility
Many organizations struggle with complex development environments that lead to prolonged application downtime and an inflexible infrastructure. The combination of MariaDB and Nutanix simplifies the deployment and management of configurable open-source databases.
Whether in on-premises datacenters, public clouds or edge locations, organizations can benefit from a flexible, modern infrastructure that supports rapid deployment and easy management. This flexibility is crucial for companies looking to innovate quickly and adapt to changing market conditions without being hampered by infrastructure limitations.
