Nutanix Advancing Women in Technology Scholarship: Empowering Future Tech Leaders

By Melissa Sheehan

Innovation thrives when everyone has a seat at the table. To foster greater creativity and progress, increasing representation in the tech industry is essential. Despite women making up nearly half of the global workforce, their presence remains significantly underrepresented in the technology sector. The Nutanix Advancing Women in Technology Scholarship program is dedicated to empowering future tech leaders, helping them achieve their educational goals, and shaping the future of technology.

Program Origins

Established in 2018, the Nutanix Advancing Women in Technology Scholarship supports women in technology by elevating their voices and contributions and improving access to necessary resources. Each year, Nutanix awards ten scholarships to students passionate about technology closing the opportunity gap for women in technical fields.

Impact and Reach

To date, Nutanix has awarded over $350,000 in scholarships to more than 90 students worldwide. Our community of recipients spans countries including Australia, France, India, the Netherlands, Mexico, Serbia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The scholarships provide financial support, special recognition, and the chance to join a network of trailblazers championing diversity and inclusion as catalysts for positive change.

Scholarship Eligibility & Application Process

Students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in computer science, engineering, artificial intelligence, or related disciplines are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be fulltime students in one of the eligible countries and maintain a specific grade point average.

For a complete list of eligibility requirements and important dates, visit our Nutanix Advancing Women in Technology Scholarship Program website.

Students should highlight their unique backgrounds, accomplishments, community involvement, skills, and motivators in their application. The application includes a short essay where students can share how they aspire to use their education to shape a better future for women in technology.

Past applicants have shared their stories and aspirations, demonstrating bravery and determination in the face of challenges, leaving us inspired. Themes in recent applications include using AI to drive change, addressing inequity in tech, and finding fulfillment through growth and development.

Selection Process

Our selection process aims to identify students passionate about technology and advancing women's representation in the field. Each year, Nutanix employees volunteer for our Scholarship Review Committee, reviewing applications with personal details redacted to reduce bias.

We are continually inspired by the stellar applicants, dreamers, believers, and builders, who will undoubtedly leave a lasting imprint on our industry.

Meet Some of our Past Winners

Over the years, it’s been an honor to support so many remarkable individuals through this scholarship program. Here are just a few of the many previous winners and applicants who inspire us.

Shanaya Aggarwal (India)

Women around us possess the talent to uplift the world. I chose a degree in technology because of my mom. She has been an idol to me and wanted me to pursue something which will leave a dent in the universe. Even if one lacks resources, it’s easy to be a master in technology because of the brilliant minds around us.

Sonia Fereidooni

Learners of marginalized communities should be able to pursue their passions without having to sacrifice more than they must, simply in pursuit of bettering their situation through education. I chose to get a degree in technology because I wanted to learn how to use tech for social good, as well as to expand accessibility of tech for women of marginalized identities.

Mariah Hicks

I view technology as a driver of societal change. Exploring diverse programming languages and tech fields like data analytics and software development, I plan to apply this expertise to tackle systemic disparities in marginalized communities. By harnessing cutting-edge technology, I aim to empower and uplift those who have been underserved by traditional financial systems.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for selecting me as a scholarship recipient. Your generosity comes at a crucial time in my journey. Thank you for your belief in my potential and for investing in my future.

Mina Petrović

I participated in numerous competitions where my capabilities were underestimated simply because I was a girl. Despite winning awards, I was frequently met with surprise rather than recognition. These experiences ignited a determination within me.

My journey thus far has been fueled by a desire to challenge stereotypes and pave the way for future generations of women in technology. My goal is to see equality in the tech industry, where there is recognition of talent and dedication regardless of gender.

Where Are They Now?

Previous scholarship recipients have gone on to achieve incredible things in their studies, communities, and careers. Many have continued to pave the way for women in technology, taking on leadership roles and making meaningful contributions to the industry. Some have even graduated and accepted full-time roles at Nutanix.

Their stories inspire and remind us of the importance of supporting and empowering future tech leaders.
