Highlighting LGBTQIA+ Support At Nutanix

Pride Alliance represents a uniquely spirited collective dedicated to growing education and inclusivity, connecting diverse employees, and supporting the LGBTQIA+ community.
Formed in 2017 as an LGBTQIA+ community slack channel, our Pride Alliance L.I.F.E. group, also known as an Employee Resource Group, has since flourished into a thriving global network. Just picture a kaleidoscope of talented individuals across the globe, united by their shared identity as a member of this Nutanix group. There is plenty of room for everyone in this group!
Pride Alliance is committed to providing development opportunities for its members, working together to give back to our local communities through volunteer opportunities, workshops, and connecting with other professional groups to collaborate on initiatives.
The LGBTQIA+ community has come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. We need to stand together to show the world who we are and that it is okay for people to be themselves. Pride Alliance is just that: a place where you can be yourself and no one will judge you, where you can ask for a helping hand or someone to listen, and we will be there. We are each other's support system!
Growing Awareness & Inclusivity
Rallying together, the Pride Alliance employee community sponsors and drives awareness of the LGBTQIA+ community within the company and our industry. This frequently includes educational opportunities, unique recruitment initiatives, and celebrations of important dates in the community. Previously, Pride Alliance has hosted Safe Zone Trainings, virtually and in various Nutanix offices, to provide information and resources related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression and designed to make the Nutanix community a safer and more inclusive place. The group has also organized panel discussions featuring guest advocates like, Amber Briggle and Lazarus Letcher, and curated educational resources for employees like ‘Ways Allies Can Observe Pride Month’.
These community initiatives open authentic conversations on LGBTQIA+ issues such as coming out at work and supporting queer or transgender children, friends, and coworkers.
Pride Alliance has been fantastic for educating coworkers about our current issues and terminology, making a more inclusive workplace for me and other queer employees. Nutanix has a written nondiscrimination policy, excellent coverage for LGBTQ+ family planning and health, and a welcoming LGBTQIA+ LIFE group. These are good indicators of safety in our professional environment.
Connecting Diverse Employees
Through vibrant social events and engaging group meetings, our Pride Alliance transcends geographical boundaries, fostering a global sense of inclusion and empowerment. They work with all members regardless of location to provide professional connections worldwide through social events and group meetings. Previously, Pride Alliance has hosted events like virtual Drag Bingo with Charlie Hide from Ru Paul’s Drag Race and many in-office celebrations. Beyond Pride Month, the Pride Alliance regularly brings employees together to celebrate events year-round, including World Pride Day, Transgender Day of Visibility, International Pronouns Day, and more.
In-person celebrations in several global offices, including Mexico City, Tokyo, Bangalore, Sydney, Durham, and San Jose.
“Coming to Nutanix, it is really unique to me to have all these resources available. To have groups like Pride Alliance where you can connect with people who made me feel like I could confidently talk about my partner without having to hide that part of my life. We also are given a great opportunity to help inform colleagues about issues the LGBTQIA+ community faces around the globe.
Supporting the Community
Pride Alliance members are always sharing their hearts by giving back to local and worldwide LGBTQIA+ communities throughout the year. Previously, Pride Alliance has participated in various initiatives like implementing inclusive office bathrooms, volunteering, sponsoring LGBTQIA+ career fairs and conventions, and researching organizations for company donations.
Here are just a few of the organizations Nutanix employees are supporting through our .heart corporate social impact program for 2024 Pride Month:
- Yaaj Transformando Tu Vida, A.C. (Mexico): A group committed to promoting, defending, and guaranteeing the sexual, reproductive, and human rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, all from a gender and youth approach.
- The Humsafar Trust (India): committed to a holistic approach to the rights and health of sexual minorities and promoting rational attitudes to sexuality.
- Human Rights Campaign Foundation (US): Seeking to fundamentally change the way LGBTQ+ people are treated and working to change policies, practices, hearts, and minds.
- Stonewall Equality (UK): Imagining a world where all LGBTQ+ people are free to be themselves and can live lives to the full.
- Queercare (US): Offers no-strings-attached support to folks undergoing gender-affirming surgery.
The Pride Alliance community is a beacon of light that provides a safe space for LGBTQIA+ employees and empowers allies to take action. I'm so proud to have the opportunity to advocate for equity. I've met some incredible people through Pride Alliance and they are a big part of what makes Nutanix such a special place to work.
Pride Month is celebrated to honor the LGBTQTIA+ community, their history, and their ongoing fight for equality and rights and we continue that support year-round!
