We are excited to announce the introduction of a dedicated Nutanix Data Lens (NDL) instance in the EMEA region, now conveniently located in Germany. With this expansion, NDL would become a more viable option for EU customers. This strategic decision gives EU customers another alternative for those who favor options within the EU.

NDL is a SaaS based cyber resilience and data insights solution that can proactively detect and help to block known and potentially unknown threats in just minutes. It helps organizations gain deeper insights into their unstructured data stored on the Nutanix Unified Storage (NUS) platform, which may aid customers in aligning with their compliance requirements for various cyber security related regulatory and privacy obligations.

Why NDL is the key to strengthening your cyber resilience posture

While "Beware of ransomware" might appear to be a warning from the past, ransomware attacks still remain a potent threat today. The 2024 Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) report reveals that 71% of respondents who experienced a ransomware attack required days, if not weeks, to restore full operations. Furthermore, in 2023 alone, global ransomware payments surpassed a staggering $1 billion1. Reliance on data recovery as the sole strategy for cyber resilience is not enough - being proactive with data security, including continuous monitoring, prompt alerting, proactively detecting and blocking, and swiftly recovering are key components of a successful cyber resilience strategy.

For businesses, NDL delivers three key benefits: integrated ransomware resilience, data lifecycle management, and audit and compliance.

Integrated Ransomware Resilience

NDL’s active defense technology employs rapid detection and blocking mechanisms to protect businesses against known, and potentially unknown, cyber threats. By combining signature-based and behavior-based threat detection, NDL is capable of detecting and blocking known threats within the first 20 min of the event, as well as potentially unknown threats that behave similarly. In perspective, this could be faster than relying on a human to detect and block these threats manually. Known signatures are compared to NDL’s database, while unknown threats undergo thorough behavioral analysis, examining read, write, deletion, and encryption activity to identify patterns that mirror those of known threats.

Upon detecting a suspicious signature, NDL triggers an immediate block. Simultaneously, an automatic alert is generated along with a snapshot of the affected share so that any potential impact is promptly recorded for further analysis.

In the event of an attack, NDL's 1-Click Recovery feature enables the restoration of data from the most recent secure snapshot on the NUS platform. This seamless process enables businesses to swiftly resume operations, helping to minimize downtime and productivity loss. (Read the report to learn more)

Data Lens Lifecycle

Data Lifecycle Management

NDL streamlines data lifecycle management to reduce storage costs and optimize primary storage performance. By employing smart tiering and data age analytics, businesses can categorize data into cold, warm, and hot buckets. Furthermore, NDL can tier off cold data to cost-effective S3 compliant and Azure Blob targets.

Audit and Compliance

NDL facilitates audit and compliance efforts by providing centralized global data visibility, permissions monitoring, and risk visualization. Enhanced data visibility enables anomaly detection to identify insider threats and helps identify the root cause of data vulnerabilities. This is particularly relevant for AI/ML use cases, where user access is crucial to minimizing data vulnerabilities with training and inferencing data.

In an ever-changing cybersecurity landscape, it is crucial to keep pace with compliance and cyber resilience initiatives. There are increasingly rigorous and rapidly evolving compliance standards which require organizations to continuously monitor and update their process and technologies to meet evolving requirements for regulatory and industry frameworks such as DORA, NIS2, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0. NDL is just another example of how Nutanix is actively working with our customers to provide proactive technology strategies as our customers navigate these regulatory challenges.
