Pride 2021 at Nutanix

June marked Pride Month, a month where the LGBTQ+ community amplifies and spotlights the celebration of being ourselves. Whether our employees see themselves as queer questioning, cis, trans, nonbinary, asexual, gay, lesbian, and pansexual—they’re a welcome part of our Qutant employee group community at Nutanix. As are our great allies.

Though we’re here throughout the year and hold many events, Pride month is an opportunity to celebrate and tell others about the community. Here is a look at some of the ways we celebrated Pride 2021 at Nutanix.

Pride Video

To kick off the month we highlighted some of our Qutants talking about what Pride month means to them. Here’s what they had to say.

Happy Hour

We celebrated the start of the month with a virtual happy hour to get to know new Qutants and reconnect with longstanding members while showing off some Pride gear. Even in a virtual world, it was so much fun!

With most of our team still working from home, we shipped Qutants Pride-at-Home swag to get them in the spirit.

HERStory

As a part of Pride and our ongoing Webscale Women HERStory series, I shared an hour-long presentation covering my career and life. I’m an SAP Solutions Architect based in Austin, Texas and a part of the Qutants leadership team. I was able to share my experience that I gained through my transition, and how I can help others find acceptance and safety. I shared my personal and professional journey and touched on what I feel I’ve learned and benefited from. Asked for my advice around careers, I talked about the importance of forming a personal brand, and the drive that guided me through my transition as well as my professional path.

Embracing Authenticity Employee Panel

Four Nutanix employees shared their experiences within Nutanix and as members of the LGBTQ+ community. They discussed work experiences as openly LGBTQ people, ways we guard our personal selves and bring authenticity to work, the importance of pronouns, and much more.

Some of our favorite quotes from the panel:

Jaime: “Pronouns are incredibly important, they’re extensions of how we see ourselves.”

Lacey: “Coming out was one of the most freeing things I’ve ever done.”

Colin: “The privilege of being alive is to be yourself.”

Emily: “Know people aren’t always what they seem.”

I’m so proud to work with them and admire the open, honest discussion. I look forward to another panel later in the year!

Juneteenth

On June 18th, employees in the U.S. observed the Juneteenth holiday, which commemorates the day Galveston, Texas, was officially informed that enslaved people were freed. We paused our Pride events to make space for employees to learn, listen, and support our Black and African American colleagues from our NuShades employee group. Thank you to NuShades for hosting an excellent educational session for employees to learn about the origins of Juneteenth and its significance.

Drag Show

We hosted our first virtual drag show with three queens from around the world. A Bay Area local, the astonishing Alpha Andromeda, was our host!

Hopefully, we’ll be able to get back to in-person drag brunches soon, but even though we were sitting at home, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the performances. So glad we could celebrate and support the talented people of our community (and have a great time doing it)!

Team Trivia and a “Taste of Pride”

Finally, we closed Pride month with an event where we learned how to make a Pride-themed drink guided by an expert mixologist – all while learning about the incredible history of the Stonewall Inn and its place in the modern gay rights movement! After we had our refreshments, we competed for the top spot in a Pride team trivia game. Congratulations to the Hairy Fairies team on their trivia victory.

What a great way to wrap up Pride—a drink, many laughs, and some learning.

So that’s a wrap for Pride 2021, but it’s not the end of our pride! Our Qutants employee group hosts events throughout the year and welcomes members and allies who’d like to join us celebrating and promoting diversity at Nutanix.
