The ephemeral nature of containers makes it difficult to persist data, and stateful applications depend on provisioned storage to remain connected to the pods that host them. Karbon, coupled with Nutanix’s storage solutions, extends Nutanix’s signature simplicity to configuring and managing persistent storage in Kubernetes.
Kubernetes clusters deployed using Karbon automatically include Nutanix’s CSI (Container Storage Interface) driver, which natively integrates with Nutanix Files and Nutanix Volumes. You can then deploy stateful applications in just minutes, and without the hassle of tedious manual processes. Karbon also handles CSI driver upgrades as part of the Kubernetes cluster upgrade workflow.
Nutanix’s CSI driver exposes all storage features available in the underlying AOS cluster to the Kubernetes clusters deployed with Karbon. The CSI driver supports LVM volumes which allow for a single application to make use of the full compute and storage resources of the underlying AOS cluster.
Nutanix CSI features include:
For use cases requiring object storage, Nutanix Objects enables Karbon platform users to store and manage unstructured data on top of a highly scalable hyperconverged architecture. Objects natively inherits Nutanix Distributed Storage Fabric (DSF) capabilities that enables you to start small and scale to store petabyte bursts of new data while still maintaining the benefits of a distributed system, such as flexibility, scalability, high performance, and cost effectiveness. It is designed with an S3-compatible REST API interface to handle large amounts of unstructured data from a single global namespace, enabling you to deploy and manage object storage services with cloud-like simplicity.
